Restored rough stone chullpa / funerary tower, Lake Umayo in background, Sillustani, Peru
Sillustani was an important funerary site or necropolis and chullpas / funerary towers from various civilisations (including Tiwanaku and Inca) can be seen there. The site appears to have been occupied since at least the Pucara civilisation (approx 800BC) and may also have been an important ceremonial centre for the Colla people in the period between the Tiwanaku and Inca empires.
