Woman selling chia, tunta and other spices on stall in San Pedro market, Cusco, Peru
Tunta or white chuño (in bags on right of stall) is a type of freeze dried potato. Chia (Salvia hispanica) is a species in the mint family (Lamiaceae) native to central and southern Mexico and Guatemala. It is widely grown in Latin America for its seeds, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, various B vitamins and minerals. They are most commonly mixed into nutritious drinks.
