Antonio José de Sucre y Alcalá (1795–1830) was a Venezuelan independence leader and an important figure in the Wars of Independence. He is also known as the Gran Mariscal de Ayacucho / Grand Marshall of Ayacucho for leading independence forces to victory at the Battle of Ayacucho on 9th December 1824. He was the fourth President of Peru and the second President of Bolivia (from 29th December 1825 to 18th April 1828). He also played a prominent role in the Constituent Assembly that made the decision that Bolivia should be an independent nation.
