View of the lower part of the mine with the former main entrance (#2, centre) and site of Camp Hope (L), San José Mine, Region III, Chile
33 miners were trapped when a tunnel collapsed in the San José mine (which is near Copiapo) on 5 August 2010. They were finally rescued on 13th October 2010 after 70 days underground, the longest time anyone has survived being trapped underground. The site where relatives placed 33 flags (one for each miner) on the hillside above the Camp is also visible just left of centre.
