Chilean flamingos (Phoenicopterus chilensis) feeding near the shore of the Inner Lake / Huiñay Marka near Puerto Guaqui, with the peaks of the Cordillera Real mountains in the background, Bolivia.
Locals regularly burn the old dead totora reeds during the dry season to encourage new growth, the ashes mix with the mud as water levels rise with the rainy season. In normal dry seasons this part of the lake would be all water and living reed beds, with no exposed mud as in the forground.
