Head of Wiracochan / Tunupa carved into Cerro Pinkuylluna above village of Ollantaytambo, Sacred Valley, Peru
Wiracocha / Viracocha is the great creator god of Andean mythology, not only for the Incas but also earlier civilisations. Wiracochan (or Tunupa / Thunupa) was Wiracocha's messenger and this rock face on the mountain overlooking Ollantaytambo is said to represent him. The face (which is 140m high) is much more obvious in the afternoon when the sun and shadow highlight the features. The building to the right of the face is thought to have been a storehouse for agricultural products.
