K'usillo wearing a police costume at Virgen de la Candelaria festival, Puno, Peru
K'usillos were traditionally mischievous characters in Andean folklore who were part devil, part monkey. They regularly take part in festivals in the Andean highlands, accompanying a variety of traditional dances. They often play pranks on spectators as part of their role as entertainers, and sometimes wear costumes that are parodies of modern figues rather than traditional ones.
