Chilean flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis)
Commonest flamingo in South America, found from Ecuador south to Patagonia and on coasts of Uruguay and southern Brazil. Breeds in temperate zones, more widespread outside breeding season in Andes, where it often prefers freshwater to saline lakes (unlike Andean and James's flamingos). Grey legs with red knees and feet, no yellow on beak (the yellowish heads and beaks of 2 birds in this photo is due to mud). Often appears whiter / paler than other South American flamingos when seen with them. Local names: flamenco austral, flamenco común, flamenco chileno, pariguana rosada.
