Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds above Moai de Tara / Monjes de la Pacana rock formation, Los Flamencos National Reserve, Chile
The clouds of stars to the right of the rock are the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC, above) and Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC, below). They are irregular dwarf galaxies that orbit the Milky Way. The light in the scene is from the recently risen last quarter moon.
