Masked Moreno Morenada dancers holding rattles made from Andean hairy armadillos, Oruro Carnival, Bolivia
The Andean hairy armadillo (Chaetophractus nationi) is found in the dry altiplano regions of Bolivia and northern Chile, possibly also in southern Peru and northern Argentina. It is an endangered species, its use for making rattles, charangos etc for festivals is now prohibited.
