Detail of carved hair braids and figures on rear of the Jinchunkala monolith at site of Konko Wankane, La Paz Department, Bolivia
Konko Wankane (also spelt Khonkho Wankane / Wakani) was an important Late Formative / pre Tiwanaku era ceremonial site in the Jachcha Jahuira river valley near Jesús de Machaca approx 30km south of Tiwanaku. The Jinchunkala monolith is the largest and most significant at the site. These hair braids are very similar to those on the later Ponce monolith at Tiwanaku.
