Detail of geoglyphs of llamas / camelids at Tiliviche , Region I , Chile
The geoglyphs in the Tiliviche Valley in Region I are some of the most impressive in northern Chile. The depict a large number of llamas / camelids on the southern side of the valley, nearly all facing towards the coast. It is though they may have been made to mark the route taken by llama caravans towards the coast. Other theories suggest they have a ceremonial purpose, that they mark the presence of good grazing and water supplies or an area where predators are present.
