Male Oasis hummingbird (Rhodopis vesper) feeding on Leonotis nepetifolia flower
Found in tropical and subtropical shrubland, forest edges and gardens west of the Andes in Peru and northern Chile. Ranges from sea level in the coastal desert regions up to 3800m in the Andean foothills and valleys. This image shows the tawny / orange rump and forked tail. The Leonotis nepetifolia flower is a very popular species with hummingbirds and originally native to Africa and India; it has been introduced to South America. Local name: picaflor del norte.
