Rey moreno character in Negritos / Tundiqui dance group, Gran Poder festival, La Paz, Bolivia
The tundiquis / negritos is traditionally a dance of Bolivia's Afro Bolivian community, who were originally brought to Bolivia as slaves in the colonial period. Versions of the dance (often humorous parodies) have long been popular among non Afro Bolivian dance groups in La Paz. There have recently been calls to ban these groups for discriminating against the Afro Bolivian community.
