The Andean hairy armadillo (Chaetophractus nationi) is found in the dry altiplano regions of Bolivia and northern Chile, possibly also in southern Peru and northern Argentina. It is an endangered species, shamans often use dead ones during rituals as they are believed to bring good luck.
