What is now the altiplano region of Peru and Bolivia (as well as part of northern Argentina and Chile) was known as Collasuyu (often seen as Kollasuyu, Qullasuyu and other variations) or the southern quarter of the Inca Empire. Part of the Qhapaq Ñan, or Great Inca Road) ran through highland Bolivia, and many other pre-Columbian trails (both Inca and dating from the earlier Tiwanaku empire and others) still survive and can be explored. The Qhapaq Ñan, Andean Road System (which is found in 6 countries), was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2014.
